Mention African song and most people instantly think of the gorgeous a cappella harmony of Ladysmith Black Mambazo. They are a national treasure in their native South Africa and have been in the international spotlight since they lent their voices to Paul Simon's Graceland.

Multimedia Performance with Amy Clifford, Elissa Kline, and Robbie Wood

Friday, April 2, 7 pm

Improvisational vocalist Amy Clifford, photographer Elissa Kline, and sound engineer Robbie Wood will present a multimedia performance incorporating recorded sounds from the natural environment with live vocalization and reflective images that capture the intimacy of sound and form in motion.

A product of America's folk tradition, Mr. O'Connor's journey began at the feet of violin masters Texas fiddler Benny Thomasson and French jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli. Mr. O'Connor's "Hot Swing" trio performs in concerts throughout the United States, and in February 2002 played three sold-out nights at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York.

Seattle Young Opera Residency and Performances

Seattle Young Opera held a weeklong residency at Hemingway Elementary School. The outcome of this residency wa a free performance of the “Magic Flute” adaptation with 4th Graders playing roles in the production.

Along with the week residency and school performance, the Young Opera will perform an aria night as a part of the “Champagne Taste, Beer Budget” series.

The Ethos Percussion Group, celebrating a decade extraordinary music-making, is dedicated to the advancement of the percussive arts in performance and education. Ethos' success is a result of virtuosic and entertaining performances that are fascinating for both the eyes and ears. The ensemble's hallmark is the programming of a wide variety of musical styles, on an eclectic battery of instruments from around the globe. The performance on January 24th will include a special performance of the Missa Luba (an African mass) featuring the Caritas Chorale and tenor soloist, Wesley Rogers.
