Imani
Winds Quintet
Sun,
Feb 24, 7:30pm
Presbyterian
Church of the Big Wood, Ketchum
Since
its inception in 1997, the Grammy nominated group of five
unabashedly adventurous musicians have been enriching the
traditional wind quintet repertoire with European, African,
Latin American and American music traditions.
“If
it's possible for a classically trained wind quintet to rock
the house, Imani Winds blows the roof off,” Elizabeth Blair
raved on NPR's All Things Considered.
Although
the word “wind” gives rise to thoughts of trilling oboes and
whispering flutes, add the word “brass” and you've got a better
idea of what the Imani Winds quintet sounds like.
Imani
Winds will perform pieces from the traditional classical repertoire
to contemporary ... expect music by Argentinean Astor Piazzolla,
an original composition by group member Valerie Coleman entitled
Portraits of Josephine, inspired by Josephine Baker ... and
more!
Don’t miss these exciting musicians!
