Sam Gappmayer - Executive Director: Sam Gappmayer earned a BA in visual arts from Montana State University (1982) and an MA in Art History from the University of Oregon (1984). He has mounted exhibitions ranging in scope from regional to national in focus and has served as guest essayist for a number of outside projects. Before joining the Sun Valley Center for the Arts, he served institutions including the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Salt Lake Art Center and the Fresno Art Museum. Email Sam

Kristin Poole - Artistic Director:
Kristin Poole holds an MA in Modern Art History from the University of Chicago (1989) and a BA in Studio Art and English from Denison University (1980). She has served as Artistic Director at the Center since 1997. Prior to joining the staff at the Center she worked as an Independent Lecturer, Consultant, and Art Historian. Previous experience includes: Director of Chicago International New Art Forms Exposition, Curatorial Assistant, Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Director of the Sun Valley Center for the Arts Gallery, and Director of Lill Street Gallery (Chicago). Sally Boettger - Director of Development:
Sally Boettger earned a B.A. in American Studies from Yale University. She brings a variety of professional experience to the Center from her roles as Director of New Business Development for advertising sales at Comcast, Director of Administration at the Brandywine Conservancy, Vice President of Brookrock Corporation and Account Executive in institutional equity sales at Smith Barney. Most recently she was the Associate State Director for the Idaho Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. Email Sally

Kristine Bretall - Marketing Director:
Kristine Bretall is a graduate of Middlebury College in Political Science and Spanish (1989), with a Master’s Degree in Education from Harvard University (1993). Before starting at the Center in 2000, Kristine worked at a human resources consulting firm, Interaction Associates in Boston; taught high school Spanish at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale, Colorado; and is a Community Advisory Board member for Boise State Radio. Christl Holzl - Wine Auction Director:
Christl Holzl received a BA in Music from Luther College (1986) and a MM in Performance from the University of Northern Colorado (1988). Her work in the non-profit sector began in development and marketing with the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Youth Symphony and the American Lung Association. Prior to joining the center, Christl worked in the corporate recruiting industry. Email Christl

Britt Udesen - Director of Education and Humanities:
Britt Udesen received her BA in Fine Art from Macalester College. Before joining the staff at the Center in 2005, Britt worked as the Education and Community Outreach Coordinator at the Textile Center of Minnesota, an instructor at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts and an ESL teacher in the Czech Republic. Dan Mankin - Director of Performing Arts:
Dan most recently was Executive Director of Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts, a historic theatre in Longview, WA. He has also been the Artistic Director for Make A Circus in San Francisco, Minister of Fun for California’s Harvest Festival and a founding director of Vaudeville Nouveau and the San Francisco New Vaudeville Festival. Courtney Gilbert - Curator of Visual Arts:
Courtney holds Ph.D. and master’s degrees in art history from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College. Most recently she was Cisneros Project Coordinator at the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin, where she coordinated the planning for a major exhibition and catalog on contemporary Latin American abstract art. Kathryn McNeal - Program Coordinator:
Kathryn, who hails from Worcester, MA, graduated from Bowdoin College (2002) and worked for the Animal Rescue League of Boston and as Assistant Marketing Manager for Adirondack Beverages in Massachusetts before joining the Center staff in 2003. Email Kathryn

David Koleno - Development Associate:
David received his B.S. in organizational communication from the University of Portland, Oregon (2002) and moved to Sun Valley in summer 2003, where his first job was with Webb Landscape as customer service manager. In 2004, he went to work for Cancer Consultants as client services manager. He joined the Center staff in 2006. Email David

A practicing artist, Matt attended Luther College and the Minneapolis School of Advertising, Design and Interactive Studies. In addition to his duties as Events Manager, Matt enjoys teaching an occasional class for The Center. Email Matt

Laura Caruso - Public Relations Specialist:
Prior to joining the Center staff in January 2006, Laura served as Director of Publications for the Denver Art Museum. She has also worked as a newspaper reporter and art critic for the Kansas City Star and the Boulder Daily Camera. She holds a degree in art from Middlebury College, VT, and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Colorado. Email Laura
